My Boys Choose To Read

I like to think homeschooling has influenced the books my boys read. Cameron and Ethan always go to the nonfiction material first. I have also taught them how to look up subjects they are interested in and how to find those books. Remember the Dewey decimal system? My kids had no idea what I was talking about! I showed my boys how it works and they enjoy looking up anything they may be interested in.

I find it fascinating that these are their reading choices from last week:

We also have batman books and Hank the Cowdog in the mix.

I picked up Pigs To The Rescue for Devin. It is a funny book that we have read at least 5 times each day. I am also reading to all of them Peppermints In The Parlor, a favorite from my childhood.

What are your kids reading? Have you shared any of your childhood favorites with them?

Hayden's current favorites are Shell Silverstein's "Giraffe and a Half" and Dr Seuss' "There's a Wocket in my Pocket". I'm thinking I might have to check out "Pigs to the Rescue" :)

I am reading to myself a book from my childhood too. The Secret Garden. It makes me want a huge flower garden too. But then I think about spiders and decide I'll just go to the Thanksgiving Point Gardens.

I love the Secret Garden! I'm going to have to check out Giraffe and a Half.

Jason, as himself said...

Diego also heads straight for nonfiction. He loves science topics the best. He chooses books on things like nuclear physics and electromagnetism. Seriously. I read them to him and then he demands an explanation of what it all means and I honestly can't. It frustrates him.

I prefer fiction! This Pigs to the Rescue is much more my speed.
