Mothering With Purpose

IMG_2880I am feeling the need to re-evaluate the things I do and why I do them.  I love being a mom.  It truly is the best thing I could possibly do.  It is also truly the hardest thing I could possibly do.  My children are what gets me out of bed in the morning and yet I find myself counting the minutes until I can return to the solitude of my mattress.

I have a dear friend who I left in Texas (hi Cindy!).  I always admire the way that she never has any doubts about what she needs to do.  She has a goal and a mission and nothing gets in her way.  Her children are loved and they know they are loved.  There are many days where I look around and am baffled how I was so busy and yet nothing seems to have been completed.  I need a little more Cindy attitude to my days.

I read Mommy Come Home: On Purpose from The Finer Things in Life.  These words have been playing through my mind:

On purpose. That’s what it’s all about.  No matter your situation, position, job… be on purpose. Play with your children on purpose.  Cook your meals on purpose.  Make your bed on purpose.  Smile at your husband on purpose.  If you are working outside the home, be proud of what you are doing for your family and do it on purpose.  God gave you that job for a reason.

I think if we all just breathe some gratitude into our actions and put some purpose in our days we’ll be more at peace with where God has us, right now.

I love that!  I am going to be all that I am with a purpose.  Dinner will be prepared with purpose.  Carpools will be driven with purpose.  Hugs and kisses will be given with purpose.  Even those daily 5 stinky diapers are going to be changed with purpose!

That post was definitely a "note to self" post for me. Thanks for referencing it!

Katrine...I LOVE YOU!!! I so needed to hear nice words about myself today. Many unkind things were thought (and said) about me among the Mormons today...thank you for thinking so highly of me. I sincerely miss having you as my neighbor.

I always say my favorite times of day are right when the kids get up and when they go to bed!
