Birthday Cake

Done.  Complete.  Finished.  For reasons unclear to myself, the cake failed to rise.  It was so flat that I couldn't cut the cake to make multiple layers.  So the chocolate Butter Cake with Chocolate Pastry Cream, Chocolate Buttercream, and Ganache lost the chocolate pastry cream.  But guess what?  It was delicious!  John loved it!  Yeah!  Uncle Lee said it was the most moist cake he's ever had! (and I have to add that there's a reason they call it buttercream.  Seriously, that's a lot of butter!)

We went to dinner to celebrate and then returned home for the cake.  I gave John his gift.  We are going to a Bed and Breakfast this weekend.  Time together!  It will be fabulous!  I found out after I booked the room that it was also the opening weekend for the duck hunt.  I'm worth missing the slaughtering of our feathered friends, aren't I?

John had a great day and that's what I wanted.  I'm so grateful for all the many things he does for us.  Happy Birthday!

I think the cake looks delightful : ). Butter cream. Yummy! You are definitely way more important than a duck hunt : ).

Even though that cake may have failed to rise it looks delish! And I've seen this Warren guy on TV (didn't know he has a book...I will have to look for it) his story is so interesting and his cakes look so tempting. Dang, I really wish I could have a bite of your cake. :)

Those are huge candles. You could probably go through five birthdays using those babies.
