Coupon Organization

(original post 3/5/08)

Do you remember my brotherwho loves to eat crow?  As a reminder he once made fun of my coupon clipping abilities.  And now the man is saving more money than I am!  He is also gaining a following of people that think he thought of saving money all by himself.  It really irks me!  (we're very sarcastic.  I really love my really, really, really old grandpa brother)  I'm hesitant to disclose my new way of organizing coupons, because Jason is a great big copy cat.  But because this way of organizing coupons is not my original idea, and because I have a friend I wanted to show how I do this (hi Kim!), I am going to share my coupon files.

I used to file my coupons using a binder and base card organizers.  But as my coupons increased, I found myself spending 2 - 3 hours a week clipping coupons.  I don't have time for that!  So, now I file my coupons.

I buy 2 newspapers every week.  The coupons in the paper come in inserts called Everyday Living, Proctor & Gamble, Red Plum, and Smart Source.  I make a new file every week for each of these inserts and the date.  So, when I print out my list from The Grocery Game, I look at the date the coupon came out and I'll go to that insert and clip the coupon I need.  It saves so much time!  The only draw back is that I don't have all my coupons with me if I find a good deal while I'm shopping.  But, it's still worth saving all my time.

And here's a website I have shared with my friend (hi Kim) but not my grandpa brother.  It is Hot Coupon World.  This message board is full of people that like to save money even more than I do!  I could spend all the time I save cutting coupons on that forum.  But my favorite thing is that they have a coupon data base you can pull up under the menu choice, "coupon resources."  You then enter anything that you want a coupon for.  It will tell you where you can find that coupon!  For instance, if I want to find a coupon for Colgate Toothpaste I enter that in, and it would tell me I can find it in the Red Plum insert on 2/10/08!
Doesn't that just make your coin purse just jingle with excitement?!

And that works for me!
